Magical Meadows Therapeutic Facility Volunteer

Magical Meadows click here perusing our local newspaper last week I found out about a place that offers therapeutic horse-back riding. They have a 30 acre farm and about 30 riders to date. The article in the paper was to inform the community that they now have their non-profit status after less than two years and that they need volunteers. I have signed up to be a "horse buddy" but also flexible in assisting with other needs as well around the farm. The "horse buddy" becomes a special friend to one of the therapy horses. Working with them 2-3 times a week in a six week session, going for walks, groom, bathe and give them some extra TLC. A two hour minimum limit was set for time spent with a horse but it doesn't have to be all at once. I'll have to say, it can be a little overwhelming going from my six horses to another farm to care for another but it will be a change of pace and it's a very good cause.
They live down a LONG driveway!
And around the bend this is the view of their lovely home.
This is just one of the barns with the mares outside in the paddock. There's another barn for the geldings, another paddock and the arena for teaching the classes. Their goal is to build an indoor arena so they do not have to cancel classes due to hot or cold weather. I start on Tuesday and look forward to helping a horse that may need some attention so that it can better assist a rider in their development. Therapeutic riding programs help people with special needs "improve physical health, relax tight muscles, increase balance, build muscle strength, sharpen hand/eye coordination, improve social skills and gain a sense of control and self-confidence as the rider experiences a freedom never felt before." I'll be sure to post more photos as I spend time there helping out. This is just one thing I can do to help our community become a better place in which to live for all people. I've been blessed with so many wonderful horses and it's time to give back!

Luanne, that is awesome that you are making time to do that. We have a therapeutic riding program called Saddle Up in our area and I have always meant to volunteer. You know that saying about the road to hell and good intentions and all.

GOD BLESS YOU! We used our horse for therapy and our oldest daughter also benifited from physical therapy with horses when she was young.
You will find the blessing will be yours as you become a horse-buddy! You, my friend, will likely be hooked for life.

Luanne, I just know that you are going to love this. We have a non profit therapeutic ride center here called R.O.C.K (ride on center for kids) and they do fantastic work. You are going to be a great asset to this center! Kathy

How terrific!!! hope you and your new "buddy" hit it off great! We are happy to contribute to our local therapy riding program every year! last year my LOVING HUSBAND bid on a trip to Italy during the auction...and we won! During the COWGIRL BALL that bennifits the program, are lots of fun things to do! We haven't used the trip yet but hope to get there again soon.
